#39: Pearl Bailey
Pearl Bailey won a Tony for the all-Black production of Hello, Dolly! She and husband Louie Bellson, a jazz drummer, adopted son Tony in the mid-1950s and daughter Dee Dee in 1960. The children often traveled with their parents when they entertained troops overseas.

Both children grew up loving music. Dee Dee became a singer and toured with jazz groups, including her father’s band, while Tony became a drummer like his dad. Sadly, Tony died in 2004, and Dee Dee died of a heart attack in 2009, months after their father.
