#35: Grace Agreed to Return to Acting in Marnie
In 1962, plans were announced for Grace to star in Alfred Hitchcock’s Marnie. It would have been her first major film role since marrying Rainier. After years devoted to royal life and her young children, the actress who had left Hollywood appeared ready to step before the cameras again.

The proposed return showed that acting still held a place in her future, at least for a time. Hitchcock offered demanding material rather than a simple glamorous appearance. But Grace’s acceptance couldn’t settle every question. The character she would play soon became a problem for people who saw her first as their princess.
