#3: Coming Up With the Band Name
Choosing a name sounds simple—until it isn’t. They tried a few: The Confederates, The Detours, The High Numbers. But “The Who” stuck because it sounded like a joke, like a shrug. It was odd, maybe even awkward, and that made it perfect. When someone said, “Who’s playing tonight?”—well, there was your answer.

It had a strange kind of power: short, sharp, easy to remember, impossible to ignore. The band wasn’t sleek or safe, and neither was the name. It fit. It rattled just enough. Sometimes, identity forms not from certainty, but from a half-serious guess that turns out to be correct.
