#25: The Breakup
In 1983, after years of making music that pushed limits and tested friendships, The Who called it quits. The decision didn’t come out of nowhere. They’d lost Keith. They were tired. The energy that had driven them through the ’60s and ’70s didn’t feel the same anymore.

They’d done farewell tours and tried to hold things together, but in the end, stepping away felt like the honest choice. It wasn’t a dramatic breakup—just an acknowledgment that something had run its course. They didn’t know yet that the story wasn’t over. But for a while, it felt like the end.
